“Clouds Break Up” is inspired by a view I’ve returned to many times—looking from Applecross Bay in the Scottish Highlands towards Raasay and the Cuillins on the Isle of Skye. On this particular day, the light was extraordinary, glinting off the wet pebbles, seaweed, and rocks along the shore. The distant islands were gently pushed back into soft perspective by the shifting light. It was a truly magical moment, and one I felt compelled to capture in paint.
